New York, NY (November 10, 2016)  On December 18, 2016 at 2pm, Jazz at Lincoln Center will proudly offer the organization’s first Relaxed Performance of its one-of-a-kind holiday concert, Big Band Holidays featuring the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, music director and saxophonist Sherman Irby and guest vocalist Catherine Russell. This Relaxed Performance is designed to provide families with children or adults with autism, learning difficulties or other sensory and communication needs the opportunity to enjoy Jazz at Lincoln Center performances in a more relaxed environment.

The Relaxed Performance of Big Band Holidays will take place in Rose Theater in Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall, located at Broadway at 60th Street, New York, New York. All audiences are welcome to this performance.

This Relaxed Performance will include:

  • Adjustments to sound and lighting in the production

  • Free support resources to assist families prepare for the theater visit

  • On site trained staff and volunteers

  • Designated quiet areas where families can view the concert on a HD screen

Every holiday season, for more than a decade, the critically-acclaimed Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis and guests have explored the canon of holiday standards to perform new and traditional arrangements of Yuletide favorites. These Big Band Holidays concerts have become a season tradition among jazz lovers and families.This year, the orchestra, music director and saxophonist Sherman Irby and special guest Catherine Russellwill perform five Big Band Holidays concerts from December 14-18, ringing in the holiday season and performing new arrangements of holiday classics both sacred and secular.

Big Band Holidays will feature jazz selections including Billie Holiday's "I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm" and seasonal favorites like "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," each performed with a modern jazz twist. Mr. Irby will demonstrate what Huffington Post calls his "soulful solid sound and innate sense of swing." Ms. Russell is the next generation of jazz royalty. The daughter of singer Carline Ray and Luis Russell, Louis Armstrong's musical director, she possesses a transcendent voice which will undoubtedly bring "spirit, understanding and sense of fun" (New York Times) to each holiday performance.

Single tickets for Rose Theater can be purchased through jazz.org 24 hours a day or CenterCharge at 212-721-6500, open daily from 10am to 9pm. Tickets can also be purchased at the Jazz at Lincoln Center Box Office, located on Broadway at 60th Street, ground floor. Box Office hours:  Monday-Saturday from 10am to 6pm (or 30 minutes past curtain) and Sunday from noon to 6pm (or 30 minutes past curtain).
