Joey Alexander with Strings at Jazz at Lincoln Center

October 19–20, 2018, 8pm in Rose Theater

New York NY (September 10, 2018) — Pianist and wunderkind Joey Alexander, will perform, with his trio and a 20-piece string orchestra, original compositions and his favorite jazz classics at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Rose Theater in Joey Alexander with Strings, on October 19–20 at 8 pm.  Following multiple GRAMMY® Award nominations, a 60 Minutes feature, performances at top international festivals, and universal acclaim, this young virtuoso continues to challenge himself and expand his artistry.

When Alexander first performed in Rose Theater at age 11, it was a history-making highlight of Jazz at Lincoln Center’s 2014 gala. He has since sold out Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Appel Room and Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, and now, at age 15, the pianist returns to the organization’s largest stage as a headliner.  Joey Alexander with Strings will be his only New York City appearance on his U.S. tour.

The strings orchestration will be written and conducted by GRAMMY® Award nominated composer and arranger Richard DeRosa. A master craftsman, DeRosa has arranged for Stephen Sondheim, the Chicago Orchestra, New York Pops, and dozens more. DeRosa also recently co-wrote arrangements for the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis’ Leonard Bernstein at 100 concerts.

With DeRosa’s brilliant contributions, Alexander will join a celebrated lineage of jazz musicians to perform with strings. It is a thrilling privilege to witness the evolution of a rare talent like Alexander, and these concerts will be another firsthand experience of history in the making.

A free pre-concert discussion will take place at 7pm each night in the Agnes Varis and Karl Leichtman Studio, located in the Irene Diamond Education Center at Jazz at Lincoln Center.

Joey Alexander with Strings takes place in Rose Theater in Frederick P. Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center, located on Broadway at 60th Street in New York City.  For additional information and to purchase tickets, visit jazz.org.
