Exclusive World Premiere Collaboration: Mark O’Connor Family Band & Friends with special guests Alvin Youngblood Hart and Lizz Wright at Jazz at Lincoln Center

American Roots:  Mark O’Connor Family Band & Friends
October 5–6, 2018, 7pm & 9:30pm in The Appel Room

New York NY (August 27, 2018) — For the first time ever, Mark O’Connor Family Band, GRAMMY® Award-winning guitarist and vocalist Alvin Youngblood Hart, and American jazz and gospel singer Lizz Wright collaborate in Jazz at Lincoln Center’s iconic Appel Room in American Roots: Mark O’Connor Family Band & Friends, October 5–6 at 7pm and 9:30pm.  Winner of three GRAMMY Awards and seven Country Music Awards, O’Connor leads an exploration of blues, bluegrass, Cajun, gospel, folk, spirituals, and western swing music traditions with the newly formed Mark O’Connor Family Band–featuring Maggie O’Connor and Kate Lee on fiddle and vocals, Forrest O’Connor on mandolin and vocals, Geoff Saunders on banjo and bass, and National Flatpick Guitar Champion Joe Smart. The group’s debut album won the 2017 GRAMMY Award for Best Bluegrass Album.

These special performances mark the first time the three artists share the stage together. American Roots: Mark O’Connor Family Band & Friends also denotes a long-awaited return to Jazz at Lincoln Center for each of the artists. O’Connor last performed in Rose Theater as part of Jazz at Lincoln Center’s 2014 annual gala. During that 2011–12  season, Hart led The Blues with special guests Corey Harris and Phil Waggins in The Appel Room (then the Allen Room). Wright performed to sold-out crowds in 2003 as part of the Singers Over Manhattan series.

A free pre-concert discussion will take place at 6pm and 8:30pm each night in the Agnes Varis and Karl Leichtman Studio, located in the Irene Diamond Education Center at Jazz at Lincoln Center.

American Roots: Mark O’Connor Family Band & Friends takes place in The Appel Room in Frederick P. Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center, located on Broadway at 60th Street in New York City.  For additional information and to purchase tickets, visit jazz.org.
