JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER ANNOUNCES 2017-18 SEASON

New York, NY (February 28, 2017) - Jazz at Lincoln Center and Managing and Artistic Director Wynton Marsalis announced its 2017-18 season, which marks the organization’s 30th anniversary. The season includes 30 unique concert programs comprised of over 90 performances in Rose Theater and The Appel Room, more than 350 nights of music in Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, and a diverse and extensive range of education and community programs for all ages. Jazz at Lincoln Center’s 30th anniversary season is anchored by the exceptional Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis (JLCO), with performances that salute living legends of jazz and showcase its rising stars. The season concludes with a grand finale world premiere composition by Wynton Marsalis.

JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER ORCHESTRA PRESENTS BUDDY RICH CENTENNIAL: CELEBRATING THE JAZZ DRUM

New York, New York (February 24, 2017) - The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra will showcase the virtuosity of big band drums and rhythm during the Buddy Rich Centennial: Celebrating the Jazz Drum, April 7-8. The drums are the engine of a jazz band, setting the pace and energy for any piece of music. The program will be led by drummer Ali Jackson, and include the world premiere of his Living Grooves: A World in Jazz Rhythm, an extended piece written in the spirit of jazz drum greats like Buddy Rich. Jackson will also arrange the music of Buddy Rich with his knowledge of jazz styles that range from American drum cadences to ragtime, marching bands, West African traditions, Brazilian music, Detroit jazz tradition, and Afro-Cuban styles.

MICHAEL FEINSTEIN’S JAZZ & POPULAR SONG SERIES RETURNS TO JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER’S THE APPEL ROOM FOR SIXTH CONSECUTIVE YEAR

New York, New York (February 16, 2017) - Michael Feinstein, Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Director of the Jazz & Popular Song series, brings back American Songbook classics for the sixth consecutive year with three unique programs in The Appel Room this spring - The Unforgettable Nat “King Cole (April 5-6), The Music of Mel Tormé (May 3-4), and Ella On My Mind (June 7-8). Joining Feinstein on stage will be the Tedd Firth Big Band and a star-studded guest roster of talent from the Great White Way and beyond, including Denzal Sinclaire, who joined the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis’ 2015 Big Band Holidays tour; frequent Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola headliner Loston Harris; Grammy Award winner Billy Stritch; 2016 Broadway World New York Cabaret Award nominee Ann Hampton Callaway; and 2013 Soul Train Award winner Nicole Henry. Tony Award winning actress Jessie Mueller will join Feinstein as a guest vocalist for Ella On My Mind, marking one of the few New York City appearances the vocalist will make after her departure from the musical Waitress in March.
