Blood on the Fields
Work Song (Blood On The Fields)
February 21-23, 2013
Rose Theater
'Blood on the Fields' is Wynton Marsalis' oratorio on slavery. The piece was first performed to pack crowds in New York City in 1994. Its widespread recognition led Mr. Marsalis to be the first jazz composer to win the Pulitzer prize.
The Orchestra performed it on February 21st through February 23rd of 2013 after their winter tour of the United States. Because of the pieces importance to jazz history we had to play it during our 25th anniversary.
This song features Paula West and Kenny Washington on vocals and Eric Reed on piano.
