The Appel Room 2018-19 Season

Michael Feinstein: Caught Between the Moon and New York City

The Songs of Peter Allen Presented by Liza Minnelli

Michael Feinstein’s Jazz & Popular Song series kicks off with a celebration of the original “Boy from Oz,” Australian song-and-dance man Peter Allen, whose hit songs were the soundtrack of a generation. Under the direction of Executive Producer Liza Minnelli, who was married to Allen from 1967–1974, Feinstein and special guest vocalists Storm Large, Erich Bergen and Melissa Manchester will revisit such classics as “I Go to Rio,” “I Honestly Love You,” “Don’t Cry Out Loud,” and the Academy Award-winning theme song from Arthur, “Best That You Can Do.”

This concert will bring to life the joy, excitement, and pure heart that were hallmarks of Allen’s live performances. The New York Times once described his voice as “the pop music equivalent of a dry Manhattan with a twist of bitters,” whose music “conjures a Manhattan skyline fantasy of sophistication and romance…” Thanks to the 90-foot-tall wall of windows directly behind the stage in our spectacular Appel Room, you’ll enjoy a stunning view of the actual Manhattan skyline while Feinstein leads a properly glamorous 75th birthday tribute to this musical legend.
