Carlos Henriquez: Freedom con Clave

What To Expect

  • Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra bassist Carlos Henriquez returns to The Appel Room with a brand-new program of music written about freedom.
  • One of the best Latin jazz artists of our time brings a crowd-pleasing cast of jazz and Latin musicians for his latest program.

Celebrate freedom with some of the best Latin jazz you’ll hear all year!

Named “the most important Latin jazz artist in New York City today, the heir to the legacy of Tito Puente” by New York Latin Culture, Carlos Henriquez is the longtime bassist for the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, a Grammy Award–nominated music director, and one of the most exciting bandleaders in town.

Hailing from the Bronx, Henriquez is a rare virtuoso in both jazz and Afro-Cuban traditions, and he has performed with greats like Tito Puente, Eddie Palmieri, and Celia Cruz since the age of 14. He’s also a natural entertainer who has led concerts ranging from Rubén Blades’ debut with the JLCO to the annual New Year’s Eve bash at Dizzy’s Club.

In his return to The Appel Room, Henriquez will present the world premiere of an exclusive new program entitled Freedom con Clave, featuring new and reinvented pieces on the topic of freedom. An energetic and crowd-pleasing cast of jazz and Latin artists will join Henriquez for this debut event.
