The JLCO with Wynton Marsalis: United in Swing

What To Expect

  • Thought-provoking and uplifting new music inspired by speeches on the topic of freedom.
  • New works created for the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra by a variety of composers.

The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis is thrilled to commission and perform a series of new works written by both well-established and promising young jazz composers.

Emil Viklicky has been an internationally renowned composer for decades, while Joe Block, Endea Owens, Thandi Ntuli, and Josh Evans are some of the most promising young jazz composers to emerge in recent years. This concert gives them an opportunity to create music for a band that can play anything.

Continuing a season-long theme at Jazz at Lincoln Center, each composer will write or arrange new music inspired by speeches on the topic of freedom, and the JLCO will bring it to life like no other band can.

Experience a thought-provoking and uplifting body of new work based on real-world speeches and events, transposed into the universal language of music by these bright, artists.
