Dizzy's Club

Trevor Watkis Quintet: The Music of Dizzy Reece

With pianist Trevor Watkis, tenor saxophonist Ralph Moore, trumpeter Josh Evans, bassist Dezron Douglas, and drummer Willie Jones III.

A new super-group swings by Dizzy’s Club as part of a cross-continental tour. Hailing from London and New York City, this all-star quintet was assembled to perform the music of trumpeter and composer Dizzy Reece, a hard bop master whose musical cohorts included Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, Dexter Gordon, Art Blakey, John Coltrane, and many others. Originally from Jamaica, Reece made a big name for himself in London before becoming an internationally recognized artist and eventually settling in New York in 1959. The Routes in Jazz tour resembles his own path around the world, from Jamaica to the United Kingdom, Europe, and eventually the United States. Expect hard-swinging, time-tested jazz performed with fresh arrangements and some of the top improvisers and rhythm players in modern jazz. Catch them tonight in the jazz capital of the world and the city that the great Mr. Reece now calls home.
