Dizzy's Club

Sarah McKenzie Quintet

With pianist/vocalist Sarah McKenzie, saxophonist Troy Roberts, guitarist Dan Wilson, bassist Giuseppe Cucchiara, and drummer Donald Edwards.

After graduating from Berklee College of Music in just 18 months—on a full scholarship awarded through the Umbria Jazz Festival competition—vocalist, pianist, and composer Sarah McKenzie was quickly signed to the legendary Impulse! record label in 2015. Her first release on the label was the award-winning We Could Be Lovers, featuring originals and arrangements of songs by Duke Ellington, Irving Berlin, Joni Mitchell, Johnny Mercer, the Gershwins, and more. Her follow-up was Paris in the Rain, a celebration of her international journeys, featuring original material as well as reinterpretations of classics like “When in Rome,” “Tea for Two,” and “Triste.”

McKenzie’s latest record is 2019’s Secrets of My Heart, which showcases more of her original songwriting and lyrics, plus new versions of songs by artists including Dinah Washington, Antonio Carlos Jobim, and Wayne Shorter. She returns to Dizzy’s Club with two of the album’s phenomenal musicians—guitarist Dan Wilson and drummer Donald Edwards (himself a Dizzy’s Club headliner this month)—and a to-be-announced bassist. Swing by and catch this world-traveling rising star while she’s back in New York City!
