Chuck Israels Nextet featuring Aaron Diehl

With pianist Aaron Diehl and bassist Chuck Israels, trumpeter Charlie Porter, tenor saxophonist Tim Wilcox, trombonist John Moak, and drummer Jimmy Madison.

Best known for his essential role in the standard-setting Bill Evans Trio of the 1960s, bassist Chuck Israels has also worked with such legends as Billie Holiday, Benny Goodman, John Coltrane, Coleman Hawkins, Herbie Hancock, and others. Israels is also a remarkable composer and bandleader, and his newest group highlights the variety and originality of his original compositions and arrangements. Widely celebrated for his work with pianists, DownBeat once wrote that “the most impressive aspect of his work with [Bill] Evans is his seemingly intuitive feeling for the direction of the pianist’s improvisations.” Tonight he’ll be performing with a similarly elegant pianist and a member of the extended Jazz at Lincoln Center and Essentially Ellington family, Aaron Diehl.
