With violinist, electric violinist and vocalist Meg Okura, trumpet and flugelhornist Tom Harrell, flute and alto flutist Anne Drummond, soprano saxophonist Sam Newsome, bass clarinetist Sam Sadigursky, harpist Riza Printup, guitarist Rez Abbasi, pianist Brian Marsella, bassist Evan Gregor, and drummer Paul Wells.

“Meg Okura and the Pan Asain Jazz Ensemble have no peer in melding classical and jazz within an ethnically informed chamber setting.” – New York City Jazz Record

Violinist, vocalist, composer, bandleader, and 2018 Chamber Music America grant recipient Meg Okura presents Ima Ima,. This is her fourth album of original works with the Pan Asain Jazz Ensemble, the ten-piece jazz chamber group that Okura has used to blend the sounds of East and West for more than a decade. Released on Mother’s Day, Okura’s latest album explores her new Jewish faith, Japanese heritage, passion for jazz, and love of family;  “Ima” means “mom” in Hebrew and “now” in Japanese. Joining the multicultural ensemble is trumpeter Tom Harrell, a singular voice in contemporary jazz who has been named “trumpeter of the year” multiple times by DownBeat, recorded on over 260 albums, and worked with a long list of greats as both soloist and composer. With Okura’s broad stylistic range and compositional prowess, he makes a perfect addition to the award-winning ensemble.
