Dizzy's Club

Andrew Cyrille and Bill McHenry

With drummer Andrew Cyrille and tenor saxophonist Bill McHenry

“Good jazz drummers offer firm grounding for adventurous music. Great ones open up altogether fresh landscapes. Andrew Cyrille fits comfortably in the latter category.” – The Wall Street Journal

Andrew Cyrille is one of the preeminent jazz and avant-garde drummers, having worked with Cecil Taylor, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Coleman Hawkins, Mary Lou Williams, and other significant artists. He’s also a powerful force as a composer and bandleader. He’ll be joined by tenor saxophonist Bill McHenry—a perfect artistic match who has worked extensively with other famously lyrical drummers, like Paul Motian. Each of tonight’s musicians is both an uncompromising individualist and a democratically-minded team player, and their collaboration promises a thoughtful, cutting-edge musical dialogue.

This event is part of our 8th annual Coca-Cola Generations in Jazz Festival, showcasing some of the top rising stars of jazz alongside some of the artists who have contributed to making this art form what it is today. The Coca-Cola Generations in Jazz Festival runs from September 1–October 1, 2017. View the full line-up here.
