Dizzy's Club

Wycliffe Gordon & Friends

With vocalist/trombonist/trumpeter Wycliffe Gordon, pianist Ehud Asherie, bassist Yasushi Nakamura, drummer Alvin Atkinson, Jr. (Nov 24 & 25), drummer Lawrence Leathers (Nov 26–28), reed player Adrian Cunningham (Nov 24), reed player Anat Cohen (Nov 26-28),  and Duchess featuring vocalists Amy Cervini, Hilary Gardner and Melissa Stylianou (Nov 25)

In recent years, Wycliffe Gordon has regularly won the category of “Best Trombone” in the Annual Downbeat Critics Poll, in addition to a first-time win for “Rising Star” on Tuba in 2014. It’s always a pleasure to welcome back this former star of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and the Wynton Marsalis Septet, whose more recent groups continue to impress. Once again, Gordon kicks off the holiday season with a five-night stay at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola and special performances on Thanksgiving. Wycliffe Gordon is the definition of a good time, “the most soulful man alive,” according to vocalist Michael Mwenso, and so talented that mention of his virtuosic technique comes as an afterthought; as Wynton Marsalis says, “Just his presence is a creative experience.”
