Andy Milne & Dapp Theory

The Seasons of Being

With pianist Andy Milne, poet John Moon, saxophonist Aaron Kruzki, bassist Chris Tordini, drummer Kenny Grohowski, trumpeter Ralph Alessi, guitarist Ben Monder, vocalist & narrator La Tanya Hall, baritone saxophonist MIchael Attias, and cellist Christopher Hoffman

“The idea behind Dapp Theory is to create complete musical compositions that groove as hard as they express melodic and poetic lyricism.”— Andy Milne

Andy Milne is a versatile artist recognized for his prowess as a composer and performer, having led multiple groups and played with artists including Fred Hersch, Ravi Coltrane, Dianne Reeves, Bruce Cockburn, and Steve Coleman. Milne is perhaps best known for his indefinable, but highly recognizable group Dapp Theory, a constantly evolving fusion of lyrical jazz piano, funky polyrhythmic exploration, and spoken word poetry. Their music is eclectic, endlessly surprising, and a perfect platform on which to weave each member’s distinct talents into a unique whole. Tonight, a 10-piece edition of Dapp Theory will perform The Seasons of Being, a suite commissioned for the group by Chamber Music America’s New Jazz Works.

The Seasons of Being by Andy Milne and Dapp Theory has been made possible with support from Chamber Music America's 2013 New Jazz Works: Commissioning and Ensemble Development program funded through the generosity of the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.

This event is part of the sixth annual Coca-Cola Generations in Jazz Festival, a multi-generational meeting of legendary masters and emerging artists. Download the full schedule here.
