Dizzy's Club

Ryan Cohan Sextet

With composer & pianist Ryan Cohan, saxophonist & flautist Steve Wilson, saxophonist & bass clarinetist John Ellis, trumpeter & flugelhorn player Alex Sipiagin, bassist Lorin Cohen, and drummer Donald Edwards

A powerfully expressive pianist and composer of keen intellect, Ryan Cohan has released five critically acclaimed albums of original music and performed with a wide range of jazz luminaries and stellar ensembles, including Freddie Hubbard, Joe Locke, Gregory Porter, Ramsey Lewis, Andy Narell, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Cohan’s inventive vision and versatility have earned him a prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship for composition, Sundance Institute’s Film Composer Fellowship, and multiple New Works commissions from Chamber Music America. Tonight’s sets will showcase some newly penned compositions as well as music from Cohan’s latest release, The River, a concert-length suite inspired by a U.S. State Department tour of East Africa. Always driving forward through a variety of dynamic grooves, the music maintains an exciting modern edge while reflecting the jazz tradition. For this Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola debut, Cohan has united Steve Wilson, John Ellis, Alex Sipiagin, Lorin Cohen, and Donald Edwards, some of the finest improvisers, composers, and bandleaders around.

This event is part of the sixth annual Coca-Cola Generations in Jazz Festival, a multi-generational meeting of legendary masters and emerging artists. Download the full schedule here.
