Offering: Music of Gil Scott-Heron and Brian Jackson

With vocalist Charenee Wade, alto saxophonist Lakecia Benjamin, vibraphonist Nikara Warren, pianist Brandon McCune, bassist Lonnie Plaxico, and drummer Alvester Garnett

“Gil Scott-Heron makes me think about the responsibility and power of the artist to raise social consciousness. Imagine if more artists used their platforms to positively shift consciousness like he and artists of his day did. He inspires me to do my own thing, to not be afraid to say what I want to say.” – Charenee Wade

A regular highlight of the Generations in Jazz Festival, Charenee Wade returns for the first time as a leader. On June 23rd, Wade released her highly praised new album, Offering: the Music of Gil Scott-Heron and Brian Jackson, and now she’s here to celebrate it. Wade and her funky, tight-as-hell band bring an impassioned sense of urgency to the music befitting of Scott-Heron’s powerful and timely messages.

This event is part of the sixth annual Coca-Cola Generations in Jazz Festival, a multi-generational meeting of legendary masters and emerging artists. Download the full schedule here.
