Cyro Baptista’s Glosso Lalia

With percussionist/vocalist Cyro Baptista, guitarist John Lee, accordionist Felipe Hostins, bassist Eduardo Belo, and drummer Gil Oliveira.

Brazilian percussionist Cyro Baptista makes his long-awaited return to Jazz at Lincoln Center. Over the past few decades, this superstar percussionist has performed, toured, and recorded Grammy Award-winning albums with an enormous range of musicians, including the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, Yo-Yo Ma, Paul Simon, Phish, John Zorn, Milton Nascimento, Kathleen Battle, James Taylor, and dozens more. Tonight he will perform a new program entitled Glosso Lalia (a likely reference to “glossolalia,” or “speaking a language one does not know—also known as “speaking in tongues”). It’s an unsurprising concept when considering Baptista’s penchant for fervent improvisation and unusual utilization of all sorts of instruments. It’s sure to be another memorable evening at Dizzy’s Club.
