
Reporting to the Director, Institutional Giving, the Manager, Institutional Giving is a key member of the Institutional Giving team that will develop and implement a multiyear plan to cultivate, solicit and retain foundation and family-foundation funders.
The Manager, Institutional Giving will be an exceptional writer, with a knowledge of the performing arts, approaches to music education and basic accounting practices, who works independently and cross-departmentally to produce compelling collateral materials for JALC’s diverse programming. Further, the incumbent will actively prospect for new funding opportunities; monitor philanthropic trends; and maintain strong relationships with external and internal stakeholders.
The Manager, Institutional Giving also fulfills critical needs for the Development Department. These include copy-editing major donor communications; helping to maintain proposal and reporting templates; helping to oversee credit lines for external communications; and producing select narratives for the Board of Directors and high-level individuals.
Responsibilities
- Manage the complete grant process (identification, narrative development, submission, grant-fulfillment and reporting) for a diverse group of institutional funders.
- Develop persuasive materials, including proposals, reports, letters of inquiry and decks.
- Maintain the grant-deadline calendar and donor database (Tessitura) to ensure accuracy.
- Steward relationships with foundation staff (including participation in select meetings and cultivation events).
- Work strategically with the Development Department, JALC staff and Board of Directors to secure institutional funding.
- Collaborate with Finance to prepare and reconcile budgets (including budget narratives).
- Help maintain proposal and reporting templates for departmental use.
- Help copyedit major external communications on behalf of the Department.
- Help oversee credit lines for external communications on behalf of the Department.
Qualifications
The Manager, Institutional Giving is goal-oriented and creative, with a successful record of securing and administering grants and building productive relationships with institutional funders.
- Bachelor's degree required and a minimum of 2 years of experience.
- Exceptional writing, editing, analytical and communication skills.
- Highly meticulous and creative with excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft suite, fundraising databases and research tools.
- Knowledge of jazz or music is a plus.
