Full Stack Developer

 

The Technology department seeks a Full Stack Developer to support all JALC departments in maximizing operational efficiencies and establishing richer interactions with constituents of the jazz community (artists, fans, students, music teachers, donors) by developing new website and software for a variety of activities. Reporting to the Director, Business Planning and Operations, s/he will have access to all departments in the organization and the opportunity to propose the development of new exciting applications to improve any JALC activity.

This is a unique opportunity for candidates who want to use their technical expertise to support JALC on its mission to entertain, enrich and expand a global community for jazz.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and develop a new internal-facing online application to collect and organize Programming and Artistic data, with user-friendly search and reporting capabilities that allow JALC employees to easily enter and find any information about past, present and future concerts.

  • Automatize the existing Dashboard of key performance indicators (KPIs) and make it accessible online, transforming and integrating data from different hosted databases to provide real-time updates on the performance and social reach of all JALC programs.

  • Support the development of short/long-term and ongoing projects to improve the institution website:

    • Short-term: partner with the Creative team and our external website developer to make quick adjustments to the existing JALC website.

    • Long-term: help JALC plan and develop an entirely new website with new capabilities and ways to interact with all constituents of the JALC community – artists, fans, students, teachers and donors.

    • Ongoing: support the development of seasonal microsites for some JALC programs.

  • Participate in discussions where software development is needed to make decisions.

  • Provide guidance to the Applications Administrators of the Technology team on coding advanced SQL queries on our core customer relationship management (CRM) application, Tessitura, when necessary. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required in computer science or related technical fields.

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in both front-end and back-end professional software development.

  • Fluency in the following programming languages:

    • Front-end: HTML or HTML5, CSS, JavaScript

    • Back-end: Python and/or Java, Node JS

    • Databases: SQL

  • Willingness to quickly learn other programming languages if needed.

  • Experience with infrastructure hosted on Amazon Web Services or Azure.

  • Experience with REST API strongly preferred.

  • Experience with iOS and Android development preferred.

  • Experience with Tessitura, Ungerboeck or ArtsVision a plus.

  • Strong capability to communicate with internal clients and translate their needs into technical solutions.

  • Very organized and attentive to details.

  • Highly motivated and proactive, with a problem-solving mindset.

  • Knowledge of or keen interest in and appreciation of jazz is helpful.
