
The Education department seeks an intern for the Spring 2020 semester to assist with the production of the 25th annual Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition & Festival, May 7-9, 2020. This three-day festival will welcome 18 of the best high school jazz bands from North America to our home, Frederick P. Rose Hall, for a series of workshops, rehearsals, performances and more. The bands are then adjudicated by our Managing and Artistic Director, Wynton Marsalis, and other guest judges and the festival culminates in a concert. Responsibilities
The Education Intern is responsible for a variety of jobs leading up to and during the Competition & Festival weekend, including but not limited to:
- Assisting in maintaining the Essentially Ellington member database and various program data entry.
- Arrange and book workshops across the country for finalist bands.
- Producing festival schedules and materials.
- Acquiring materials for finalist gift bags.
- Completing other projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university. A letter of proof must be submitted.
- Internships must satisfy school requirements for earning credit.
- Availability beginning in January through the Festival (May 7-9, 2020).
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Previous experience in an arts administration setting a plus but not required.
- Experience assisting with the production of festivals and/or events preferred.
- Ability to multitask and manage several projects simultaneously.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
