Associate Director of Development, Major Gifts

 

Position Summary

The Associate Director of Development, Major Gifts is responsible for actively driving the Development department’s fundraising efforts with a focus on individual donors and major gifts ($10,000 - $50,000) as well as running the day-to-day efforts of JALC’s high level membership program – the Chairman’s Circle.  

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Director of Principal Giving and Vice President for Development to assist in devising a pipeline for cultivating, soliciting and stewarding new donors for high-level patron groups and major gifts from the New York City and national community of high net worth individuals.
  • As a front- line fundraiser, work directly with JALC donors and prospects to increase annual giving with a strong focus on gifts from $10,000 - $50,000.00.
  • Build strong relationships with JALC Education, Concerts & Touring, and Brand, Sales and Marketing colleagues to understand their work and funding priorities to effectively communicate with donors about those projects and solicit and steward restricted major gifts.
  • Work collaboratively with Development colleagues to align the operations and management of Membership, Patrons Program and Rhythm Club (JALC’s young friends’ group), including acquisition and renewals, the execution of cultivation events and correspondence.  The incumbent will keep the Director of Principal Gifts, Director of Operations and VP of Development informed of all planned activities. 
  • Work with board leadership to broaden the reach of the Chairman’s Circle.  Assist the Director of Principal Gifts and Vice President of Development with activities associated with the JALC Women’s Group. 
  • In partnership with the Director of Principal Gifts, develop and execute strategies for meeting JALC’s long-term fundraising objectives from individuals.
  • Work with Special Events staff and the Operations Director to develop and implement strategies to maximize donor participation in special events. Responsible for appropriate follow-up for cultivation activities.
  • With Membership and Patron’s Program Manager, oversee regular donor communication via written and electronic correspondence, ensuring all outreach is relevant, timely and professionally executed.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be a development professional who enjoys working with a team in a fast-paced work environment.  The candidate is well organized and a personable professional with the ability to work independently and with great communication skills.  In addition, the Associate Director of Development – Major Gifts will have: 

  • A Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years of fundraising experience with individual donors
  • Ability to identify, and cultivate major donors
  • Demonstrated success in managing donors and/or board members
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills; good judgment and motivation to work independently and in a team setting
  • Ability to gather, synthesize and analyze data
  • Outstanding organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects with frequent and specific deadlines
  • Knowledge of fundraising databases with familiarity with Tessitura and Wordfly software highly desirable
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends as needed
  • Knowledge of or keen interest in and appreciation of jazz and jazz culture
