Pulitzer Prize Winner Henry Threadgill Offers Rare Opportunity to General Public To Attend Open Rehearsals Around Upcoming Concerts, September 20 & 21, 1pm

New York, NY (September 6, 2017) – Jazz at Lincoln Center announces an open invitation to a rare opportunity to see Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Henry Threadgill at work, with two free Open Rehearsals on September 20 and 21, 1pm-4pm.

The rehearsal on Wednesday, September 20, will take place in Studio 3 at Carroll Studios, located at 625 West 55th Street, 6th floor.  This rehearsal will focus on the music being presented by Threadgill’s ensemble, Double Up with special guest pianist Luis Perdomo. Seating for this rehearsal is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

On Thursday, September 21, the open rehearsal will take place at Jazz at Lincoln Center in the Agnes Varis and Karl Leichtman Studio, located in the Irene Diamond Education Center on the 5th floor. This rehearsal will feature Threadgill in the role of conductor of his new, large 15-piece ensemble, and will include a Q&A opportunity with the artist during the last hour.  Attendees will also have the opportunity to refer to the score during the rehearsal, to follow and learn the music alongside the musicians. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Visionary composer and multi-reedist Henry Threadgill, a living legend whom The New York Times calls a “composer and bandleader of intense, unyielding originality” will present two world premieres at Jazz at Lincoln Center on September 22 and 23, at 8pm in Rose Theater, located in Frederick P. Rose Hall, the home of Jazz at Lincoln Center, on Broadway at 60th Street in New York, New York.  

On Friday (9/22), Threadgill will lead his Double Up with special guest pianist Luis Perdomo. On Saturday (9/23), Threadgill will premiere a brand new ensemble called 14 or 15 Kestra: Agg and will present the world premiere of a new work, entitled “Dirt…and more Dirt” inspired in part by sculptors Steven DeStaebler and Walter de Maria’s exhibition at the Dia Art Foundation called Earth Room.

All single tickets for Rose Theater can be purchased at jazz.org 24 hours a day or through CenterCharge at 212-721-6500, open daily from 10am–9pm. Tickets can also be purchased at the Jazz at Lincoln Center Box Office, located on Broadway at 60th Street, ground floor.
