The Mike LeDonne Trio featuring Ron Carter (7:30pm), Buster Williams (9:30pm), and Jimmy Cobb

With pianist Mike LeDonne, bassists Ron Carter (7:30pm set only) and Buster Williams (9:30pm set only), and drummer Jimmy Cobb

“Hearing Mike LeDonne was a startling revelation. I was knocked out.” – Milt Jackson

“Mike LeDonne is one of the most talented pianists of this particular era. He’s incredible.” – Oscar Peterson

Pianist and organist Mike LeDonne made his recording debut in 1988, and he’s still managed to work with a number of the all-time jazz greats: Benny Goodman, Sonny Rollins, Milt Jackson, Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Golson, and more. Tonight’s trios continue that trend. On drums for both sets is NEA Jazz Master Jimmy Cobb, whose playing you’ll recognize from Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue, John Coltrane’s Giant Steps, and over 100 other recordings. On bass for the 7:30pm set is another NEA Jazz Master, Ron Carter—the most recorded jazz bassist in history. Taking over on bass for the 9:30pm set is Buster Williams, another prolific living legend who has worked with everyone from McCoy Tyner and Mary Lou Williams to Nancy Wilson and Etta james. Join us at Dizzy’s as these legends help Mike LeDonne celebrate his birthday in style and in swing.
