The Dave Liebman Big Band, conducted by Gunnar Mossblad, celebrates John Coltrane

Big Band Mondays

With tenor and soprano saxophonist Dave Liebman; saxophonists Gunnar Mossblad, Charles Pillow, Dave Riekenberg, Tom Christensen, and Jay Brandford; trumpeters Bob Millikan, Brian Pareschi, Stuart Mack, and Pat Dorian; trombonists Sam Burtis, Scott Reeves, and Jeff Nelson; pianist Jim Ridl; guitarist Vic Juris; bassist Tony Marino; and drummer Marko Marcinko

NEA Jazz Master saxophonist Dave Liebman is a living legend who has recorded on over 500 albums, including more than 70 as a leader. He celebrated his 70th birthday with us during the 2016 Coca-Cola Generations in Jazz Festival, and we’re thrilled to have him back again this year. This one-night-only performance will feature Liebman’s acclaimed Big Band and the music of John Coltrane. The group’s recent tribute to Wayne Shorter showed its ability to transform the demanding, idiosyncratic music of a master saxophonist into effective big band charts. With smart song choices, an extraordinary band of ensemble players and soloists, and the direction of Gunnar Mossblad, we expect this to be yet another project that meets unusually high expectations.

This event is part of our 8th annual Coca-Cola Generations in Jazz Festival, showcasing some of the top rising stars of jazz alongside some of the artists who have contributed to making this art form what it is today. The Coca-Cola Generations in Jazz Festival runs from September 1–October 1, 2017. View the full line-up here.
