Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola

Al Foster with Javon Jackson, Tadataka Unno and John Webber

Lessons from Our Masters

With drummer Al Foster, saxophonist Javon Jackson, pianist Tadataka Unno, and bassist John Webber

The Lessons from Our Masters series features a master of jazz alongside a multigenerational band. Master drummer Al Foster has long been a major innovator in jazz. A member of Miles Davis’ band for 13 years, Foster has also worked closely with such icons as Thelonious Monk, Cannonball Adderley, Freddie Hubbard, Chick Corea, Betty Carter, Hank Jones, Horace Silver, Joe Henderson, McCoy Tyner, Hugh Masekela, Sonny Rollins, John Scofield, Bobby McFerrin, Abbey Lincoln, Dexter Gordon, Kenny Barron, and dozens of equally revered musicians across the decades. In short, Foster is a perfect fit for this week’s Lessons from our Masters series and a welcome addition to our eclectic, month-long Generations in Jazz Festival.

Al Foster will be performing in this set instead of the previously scheduled Master, Jimmy Cobb. Mr. Cobb is recovering from a brief illness and will be unable to perform tonight. He looks forward to being back at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola very soon.

This event is part of the sixth annual Coca-Cola Generations in Jazz Festival, a multi-generational meeting of legendary masters and emerging artists. Download the full schedule here.
