Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola

Billie and the Boys

A Centenary Celebration of Billie Holiday

8-piece band featuring vocalists Shenel Johns, Elena Pinderhughes, Molly Ryan, Vuyo Sotashe, and Michael Mwenso with Music Director & trumpeter Riley Mulherkar, drummer Joe Saylor, bassist Russell Hall, pianist Sullivan Fortner, guitarist Gab Schnider, alto saxophonist and clarinetist Julian Lee, and tenor saxophonist Tivon Pennicott

As part of Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Billie Holiday Festival celebrating the iconic singer’s centennial, Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola presents Billie and the Boys – a showcase of Holiday’s pioneering years as vocalist and front-woman for the great male jazz artists of her time. This unique concert features a multitude of gifted singers, who will take turns sharing the stage with an 8-piece band led by Riley Mulherkar. Holiday consistently worked with the best in the business, and these performances will focus on the material she performed with the bands of such leaders as Count Basie, Teddy Wilson, Artie Shaw, and Benny Goodman.

On Friday and Saturday evening, visit the Atrium before each set to enjoy live music and samples from the Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola menu. The Famous Grouse whisky will celebrate the era of Billie Holiday by offering tastings of shaken and stirred cocktails from 1930s recipes: “The Blood and Sand” and “The Affinity.” Harlem Brewing Company will offer tastings of their Sugar Hill Golden Ale and Renaissance Wit, and Kings County Distillery will be on-site on Friday evening to offer samples of their award-winning whiskeys.”
