Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola

Gathering Light

Hosted by Rhonda Hamilton

With Oran Etkin, clarinet; Lionel Loueke, guitar; Ben Allison, bass; Curtis Fowlkes, trombone and Nasheet Waits, drums

Described as a "great clarinet player" and "an excellent improviser" by The New York Times, clarinetist Oran Etkin will debut his new album, Gathering Light, at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola. The past two years have been an exciting time for Etkin, beginning with a GRAMMY® Award for a benefit CD featuring his music, followed by tours to Indonesia, Japan, China, Israel, Belgium, France, and Germany. His music is influenced by frequent collaborations with musicians from different traditions and cultures, and the rich material featured on Gathering Light is inspired by these spontaneous musical exchanges as well as traditional melodies and rhythms. Released by Motéma Music, Gathering Light takes its name from an ancient story about how pieces of soulful light, scattered around the earth at the beginning of time, hold the key to mending the world.

Live webcast and artist interview with WBGO host Rhonda Hamilton will begin at 7:15pm EST on jalc.org/live. WBGO is proud to partner once again with Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola on Monday Nights with WBGO. The series features talented new artists as well as groups from some of the area's great college jazz programs. Each performance is hosted by WBGO announcer Rhonda Hamilton.
