Uhadi: All-Stars of Johannesburg Jazz

Featuring Sibongile Khumalo

With Sibongile Khumalo, vocals; Feya Faku, trumpet; McCoy Mrubata, saxophones/music director; Paul Hanmer, piano; Herbie Tsoaeli, bass; and Justin Badenhorst, drums

“…a jaw-dropping classical masterclass in vocal dexterity from Khumalo.” - The Independent (London)

Uhadi, an all-star jazz band from Johannesburg, will set Dizzy’s alight with its joyful, high-energy brand of jazz, as it celebrates 20 years of democracy in South Africa and honors the life and work of the late Nelson Mandela. Joining them on stage is “South Africa’s first lady of song,” mezzo-soprano Sibongile Khumalo. A frequent collaborator with legendary trumpeter Hugh Masekela, Khumalo has established herself as a leading lady of opera, appearing at venues like Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, and the Barbican Centre. However, Khumalo’s range is far broader than opera, as demonstrated in her award winning albums, which traverse styles from African indigenous and choral music, to Western classical and jazz. Don’t miss the U.S. debut of this monumental collaboration.
