Staff Accountant

 

The Finance department seeks a Staff Accountant to join the Accounting team. Reporting to the Manager, Accounting, the Staff Accountant is responsible for the financial processing and reporting of various monthly accounting transactions and reconciliations. S/He will maintain the accounting of merchandise sales; record and analyze sources of revenue such as donations, grants and music sales; and assist in month-end reporting procedures. An ideal candidate must have a strong work ethic, keen attention to detail, and a high capacity to partner with staff from various departments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform monthly close procedures as assigned.

  • Analyze and reconcile balance sheet and income accounts as assigned.

  • Prepare monthly journal entries; assist in the preparation of month-end reporting.

  • Assist in the tracking and recognition of temporarily restricted grants and donations.

  • Analyze and reconcile deferred income.

  • Recording merchandise sales.

  • Maintain inventory tracking and cost-of-goods-sold recognition.

  • Track and record recorded music sales and royalty receipts and payments.

  • Record cash, deposits, credit cards and wires.

  • Handle other projects as assigned or required by the Manager, Accounting.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 2 years of demonstrated, solid accounting experience in nonprofit or for-profit sectors.

Sales tax and/or grant accounting experience strongly preferred but not required.

Highly skilled in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Word. Working knowledge with accounting software is required; knowledge of Financial Edge is a plus.
Experience with Tessitura is a plus.
Exemplary attention to detail and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to multitask and manage various priorities and projects in a deadline-oriented environment.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships within the Finance department and other departments. Ability to handle financial information with discretion.
