Prospect Researcher


Position Summary:

The Prospect Researcher and Strategist to work closely with and support the Development Office, primarily in the areas of Individual and Foundation fundraising to conduct comprehensive research on current, lapsed and prospective donors. Research will inform the prospect pipeline and move management plans across the department.



  • Identifies, researches, analyzes, prepares and presents various kinds of research (financial, biographical) reports on individuals, corporations, foundations and government agencies to be used for fundraising priorities.

  • Conducts research on prospects while utilizing web-based research tools (Wealth-X, Wealth Engine, Foundation Search, NOZA, SEC and FEC filings, Hoovers, Market Watch, Forbes, Bloomberg Businessweek, etc.) as well as Tessitura donor database to collect and analyze information. Create various research documents for use in the fundraising process, including in-depth prospect profiles, bios, lists, and meeting briefings.

  • Stay abreast of current local, national, and global events across a number of fields.

  • Assist in establishing and maintaining the integrity of donor records in database.

  • Support the Staff Nominating Committee liaison with necessary profiles and documents.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s degree required, and a minimum of three years in Not for Profit Research experience.

  • Strong ability to sift through and evaluate large amounts of information, work independently and prioritize workload.

  • Proficiency in creating cogent, neat, readable and comprehensive donor profiles.

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment and manage numerous tasks and deadlines.

  • Strong critical thinking skills and detail-orientation.

  • Knowledge of all basic Microsoft Office applications.

  • Willingness to work occasional nights and weekends as required.
