Manager, Institutional Giving

 

The Manager, Institutional Giving is an essential member of a dynamic Institutional Giving team that will create and manage a well-coordinated, strategic development plan to cultivate and solicit support from institutional funders including government agencies and foundations. The desired candidate will provide the expertise to advance JALC’s interests by researching and identifying sources of support, proactively seeking opportunities to generate new proposals based on government guidelines, and maintaining strong communication ties with key government officials and foundation program officers.

Reporting to the Director of Institutional Giving, the ideal candidate will be an exceptional communicator, researcher, and writer and will collaborate with the Development team to produce highly compelling written collateral including proposals, reports, and other materials that represent JALC’s mission and diverse programming across the fields of arts and culture and education. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage proposals and reports to government agencies and foundations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the complete application and reporting process for government grants from city, state, and federal agencies and facilitate the completion of government contract packages in coordination with senior leadership.

  • Develop collateral and written materials for proposals and grants to government agencies and private foundations, including: RFPs, applications, standardized forms, interim and final reports, concept notes, briefings, letters of inquiry, and other written materials as needed.

  • Actively prospect and identify new government funders to expand revenue pipeline through identification, research, and strategic outreach.

  • Manage the proposal and report deadlines and grant calendars.

  • Develop and maintain cross functional working relationships with department and program staff to ensure grants meet internal needs and expectations.

  • Communicate directly with current and prospective funders, including key government officials, on calls, email, at meetings and JALC events.

  • Update database of funders and prospects, and ensure accuracy in recording of funder histories, activities and profiles.

  • Meet with JALC staff, government administrators, and fiscal officers as necessary to gather financial and capital information for proposal preparation. 

  • Stay abreast of regulatory changes and ensure internal policies and procedures are amended as needed to reflect changes.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate is energetic, ambitious, goal-oriented and creative, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, and with talent for building strong and productive relationships with government officials, agencies, and foundation personnel. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated record of success in generating significant commitments from government agencies and foundations.

  • Bachelor's degree required and a minimum of 2 years of government grants experience. 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of local, state, and federal government and compliance policies.

  • Ability to initiate and build relationships with prospective donors, government officials, and interact via telephone, email, and in person with institutional representatives.

  • Highly detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills. 

  • Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills.

  • Problem-solver and strategic and analytical thinker with the ability to prioritize and work in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines.

  • Ability to work with flexibility, efficiency, enthusiasm and diplomacy both individually and as part of a complex team effort.

  • Experience in MS Word and Outlook, with advanced knowledge of Excel.

  • Experience using a fundraising database and grant research tools.

  • Commitment to the mission of JALC and grant writing experience specific to arts programs and/or education programs is a plus.
